We have a very busy and exciting Summer term ahead of us and below is a summary of some of the learning that will be taking place.

School Uniform

We are trying to help all members of Team Trinity look as smart as possible! Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform. This includes only round, silver/ gold stud earrings. Hair accessories should be small and in school colours. Where children are not dressed in line with our uniform policy, you will be sent a polite reminder via the school office.

Parent Workshop: Zones of Regulation

You are invited to a parent workshop on Friday 13th June in the afternoon (timings tbc). This will be to discuss how we use Zones of Regulation to help children manage their feelings and behaviour.  As always, if you are unable to attend, a grandparent or alternate family member is welcome to take your place.

PTA

We are always looking for more members to join our PTA to help arrange discos, fetes and other fundraising ideas. We are raising money to develop our pond area. If you think you can help, please email pta@trinity.hereford.sch.uk.  Our Summer Fete will be on Thursday 22nd May.

School Trip to Safari Park

We are learning about Animals in Science. Therefore, we will be going on a trip to West Midlands Safari park on Thursday 10th July. You will receive a letter with the details of this shortly.

English

In English this term, we will be writing a persuasive letter based on The Day the Crayons Quit. Following on from this, we will be writing non-fiction information texts based on Big Cats, inspired by our Safari Park visit!

Reading

This term, we will be continuing to develop our fluency and reading comprehension by studying KS1 reading extracts, such as “Games from around the world”.  Please support your child by reading 5 times a week and logging this on Boom reader. Any book from home or school can be logged. For every week that your child has five reads logged on Boom Reader, your child will earn a ticket that is entered into the end-of-term reading raffle. The winning children at the end of each half term will have a special prize such as reading in the forest school area. Children who did not pass their Year 1 Phonics screening test will take a retake during the week beginning Monday 9th June.

Mathematics

In our daily maths lessons, we will be learning to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. This is something you can support with your child’s learning at home. Throughout Year 2, we are learning the 2, 5 and 10 times table. In our unit on Fractions, we will be learning to find half and a quarter of an object and amount.

Science

In Science we will be studying ‘Living Things and Their Habitats’. We will be learning about animals around the world, their homes and drawing basic food chains.

P.E. and Swimming

P.E kits are still required to be worn to school on the day of your child’s P.E. lesson. Please remember the school P.E. kit consists of plain black shorts or joggers, a black sweatshirt or hoody and white t-shirt (with or without the school logo) and trainers. Please ensure that if your child wears earrings to school, these are either removed by the child themselves or taped up with tape provided from home.

All Year 2 children will be doing outdoor PE on a Monday.
2GP are swimming on Wednesdays and will come to school in P.E clothing, bringing their swimming kit.
2L and 2G have P.E and Art on Wednesday afternoons.
We have planned Year 1 and 2 Sports Day for Tuesday 17th June at 13:30, weather permitting.

Geography

In our weekly Geography lesson, we will be learning about the Yanomami tribe who live in South America, near the Amazon rainforest. We will also be learning map skills.

RHSE
Our topic in RSHE is ‘Healthy Me’ where we will be learning about the important of a balanced diet, sleep and regular exercise.

Uniform
Correct school uniform must be worn at all times, and all garments must be labelled with your child's name. If it is a sunny day, please ensure sun cream is applied before school. Our school uniform policy states that earrings should be gold or silver plain, round studs.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.   You can contact any member of the staffing team through the email addresses listed below. Alternatively, phone the school office and a message will be passed on for you.

Many thanks,
The Year 2 Team

Homework

In response to ongoing discussion with parents, we will begin sending regular home learning tasks in the Spring term. We will be sending home weekly homework on Friday. This will include Spellings to learn at home and a maths sheet which will link to what we are learning in class. Please return homework by the following Friday.
